Expert Roofer Verified: membership standards
What every verified member has to prove to join, the conduct we expect of them while they hold the badge, and what happens if they fall short.
Version 1.0 · July 2026
These standards apply to every member of the Expert Roofer Verified scheme, run by Expert Roofers. The scheme verifies credentials: it confirms who a roofing company is, that it is insured, that its reviews are real and that it has genuine experience. It is not a guarantee of any individual piece of work, and contracts for roofing work are strictly between the homeowner and the member.
1. The four entry checks
No profile is published until all four checks have been passed.
Identity
We check photographic ID of the business owner against Companies House or equivalent records. The person applying must be who they say they are, and the business must be the business they say it is.
Insurance
We see current public liability insurance policy documentation before verification is confirmed. Members must maintain that cover throughout their membership and must notify us if it lapses. A member trading without public liability insurance has no place in this scheme.
Reviews
Members must have a genuine presence on at least one independent review platform, such as Google, Checkatrade or TrustATrader. We independently check the scores and review counts ourselves before anything is published on a profile.
Experience
Members must have at least ten years of roofing experience, evidenced through trading history, company records or verifiable work history. Ten years is the bar; there are no exceptions.
2. Ongoing obligations: the code of conduct
Holding the badge means agreeing to trade to a standard. Every member commits to the following for as long as they are verified:
- Provide written, itemised quotes so homeowners can see exactly what they are paying for.
- No cash-only demands and no large upfront payments.
- Comply with consumer law, including cooling-off rights on doorstep and distance contracts.
- Maintain current public liability insurance at all times.
- Make only honest claims in advertising and marketing.
- Cooperate with any complaint investigation we carry out under the complaints procedure.
- Notify us of material changes to the business, including changes of ownership, insurance or trading status.
3. Annual re-verification
Verification is not a one-off. All four entry checks are re-run every year, and each member's profile shows the latest verification date. A member who passed in July 2026 has to pass again in July 2027 to keep the badge.
4. Suspension and removal
The following lead to suspension or removal from the scheme and withdrawal of the badge:
- Failing annual re-verification.
- Lapsed public liability insurance.
- Serious complaints upheld under the complaints procedure.
- Dishonesty in an application, whenever it comes to light.
When a member is removed, their profile page is taken down and their right to display the badge ends. Decisions are made under the complaints procedure and the membership terms, normally within 28 days of the matter being raised with us.
5. Ratings integrity
The consolidated Expert Roofer rating on each profile is computed only from independently published reviews on platforms such as Google, Checkatrade and TrustATrader, weighted by review count. We never write, edit or invent reviews, and members cannot pay to change a rating. New members without an established review history are shown as rating pending rather than being given a score they have not earned.
