How we research our cost data
Every figure on this site is there because we can stand behind it. Here is how the numbers are put together.
Researched, not guessed
Cost ranges are built from contractor day rates, trade price lists for materials, and typical labour times for each job, then sense-checked against real quotes homeowners receive.
Updated annually
Material and labour prices move, so every cost guide is reviewed and updated each year. Each guide shows the year its figures apply to, so you always know how current the data is.
Ranges, honestly stated
We publish ranges rather than a single flattering number, because roof size, access, condition and region genuinely change the price. A guide that promises one exact figure is misleading you.
How we vet the roofers we introduce
Anyone with a ladder and a Facebook page can call themselves a roofer. Before a roofing company can receive enquiries through Expert Roofers, we check three things:
- Insurance: valid public liability cover, so you are protected if something goes wrong on your property.
- Company records: we verify the business is real and trading, checking Companies House or sole-trader details.
- Recent work: references from recent local jobs, because past customers are the most honest reviewers there are.
Vetting reduces risk; it cannot remove it entirely. Your contract is always directly with the roofer, so we still recommend getting everything in writing and never paying large sums up front. Our guide to choosing a roofer walks through every check.

No mystery, no small print: roofing companies pay us for the introductions we make. Homeowners never pay anything, and never will.
